Lesson Plan: Size It Up! - Pre-Kindergarten - Grade PK

Summary:Children describe and compare size, height and weight of objects at centers. Over several days, children manipulate the objects to answer questions and investigate the objects. They discuss the objects with a partner to reinforce vocabulary and conceptual understanding. Suggestions to involve parents are provided.

Benchmark: B. Select appropriate units for length, weight, volume (capacity) and time, using: - objects; i.e., non-standard units;- U.S. customary units: inch, foot, yard, ounce, pound, cup, quart, gallon, minute, hour, day, week and year;- metric units: centimeter, meter, gram and liter.
Indicator: 4. Begin to use terms to compare the attributes of objects (e.g., bigger, smaller, lighter, heavier, taller, shorter, more and less).

Indicator: 5. Order a set of objects according to size, weight or length.
